  9. Daniel S. Haight to Samuel L. Southard, letter, 1842 - p.01
    Daniel S. Haight was the first settler on Rockford's east side, in 1835. This letter is directed to the Member of Congress from Rockford's district, Samuel L. Southard, and discusses the problems posed to people of Winnebago County by the government's attempt to give land to exiles from the 1830 revolution of Poles against Russia. The conflict was shortly resolved in favor of the settlers of Winnebago County. Letter dated March 8, 1842.

    Program for the Anniversary Exercises of the East Rockford High School, June 30, 1870. One graduate was Alta M. Hulett. Born in 1854, she studied law with William Lathrop in Rockford after graduation and, after some difficulties, became the first woman admitted to the bar in Illinois in 1873. She practiced in Chicago for three years;in failing health, she moved to California in 1876, where she died March 27, 1877, aged just 22 years.
