  1. "The Library Serves"--Flier
    Flier prepared by the Mount Prospect Public Library in the late 1940s. It offers information about what services the library provides.

    Front portion of book cover for the book Abe Lincoln of Pigeon Creek by William E. Wilson. The book, published in 1949, was in the library's collection when the cornerstone contents were put together.

  3. Architects Letter, 1949
    Letter from J. Mitchell of Childs & Smith Architects of Chicago to E. H. Cleven. The letter is dated November 17, 1949. It concerns the library building planned for the corner of Emerson and Busse Streets in Mount Prospect. The letter includes a sketch of the proposed location of the building on the property.

  4. Bid Request Letter, 1949
    Letter from Clarence E. Reed of Reed Brothers Plumbing and Heating Engineers to E. H. Cleven dated November 22, 1949. In it Reed requests a copy of specifications and blue prints so the company could submit a bid on the library construction project. Included is a clipping from Construction News periodical which announces the construction of the library. This announcement gives an incorrect location. The library was built at Busse and Emerson Streets not Harrison Street.

  5. Bond Election for Library Building--Newspaper Article
    Newspaper article from the June 17, 1949 edition of the Mount Prospect Herald. It announces that an election for a library building bond issue would be held in Mount Prospect. It also mentions that plans for the new library had been prepared.

  6. Bond Issue Vote--Newspaper Article
    Newspaper article from the August 25, 1949 issue of the Chicago Tribune. It announces that a special election would be held September 13 in Mount Prospect. Voters would be asked to vote on bond issue to finance a new library building.

  7. Books Are Weapons--Newspaper Article
    Newspaper article from the Mount Prospect Herald dated October 21, 1942. It announces that the library board will make a house-to-house canvass of the village seeking donations for the Mount Prospect Public Library. It also encourages residents to continue reading, seeing it as part of the war effort.

  8. Canvass for Funds--Newspaper Article #1
    Newspaper article from the Chicago Tribune dated October 24, 1942. It includes a photo of members of the woman's club board in Mount Prospect preparing for a canvass of the village to gather funds for the Mount Prospect Public Library.

  11. Construction Grant Notification Letter, September 1974
    Letter from State Library Director Alphonse F. Trezza to John Parsons, Board of Trustees President. Dated September 17, 1974, it announces tentative approval of the library's construction grant request.

  12. Construction Plans Letter, October 1974
    Letter from State Library Deputy Director Kathryn Gesterfield to John Parsons, Board of Trustees President. Dated October 29, 1974, it acknowledges receipt of the required preliminary plans for a new building. It also indicates, however, that funding for a new building had not yet been approved by the legislature.

  13. Cornerstone Ceremony--Newspaper Article
    Article from the Mount Prospect Herald dated March 24, 1950. It announces that the cornerstone laying ceremony would be held March 24, 1950 at the site of the Mount Prospect Public Library. A general description of the cornerstone contents is given.

  14. Cornerstone Contents
    List of items put in a copper box which was then placed in the corner stone of the library building on March 24, 1950.

  15. Current Library Favorites
    Clipping from an unnamed library publication which lists books in high demand at major public libraries as of February 1950. These titles were purchased by the Mount Prospect Public Library on March 15, 1950.

  16. Donors List
    Typewritten list dated March 24, 1950 of those individuals and organizations whose donated funds helped to pay for the purchase of the library building site. The amount donated by each group is provided. The board treasurer Bertha T. Ehard and Finance Chairman Edmund H. Cleven signed this list.

    Letter from former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar to Mount Prospect Public Library. It congratulates the library on its 50th Anniversary, September 1993.

  21. Election Campaign File Cover Letter
    Letter written by Edmund H. Cleven on May 1, 1943 which accompanied a file of letters, ballots, petitions and other materials related to the work for a tax supported free public library in Mount Prospect. Cleven coordinated this effort.

  23. Illinois State Senate Resolution, 88th G.A., 1993
    Resolution offered on September 14, 1993 by Peter G. Fitzgerald in the Illinois State Senate, 88th General Assembly. It congratulates the library on its 50th Anniversary.

  25. Letter to Mount Prospect Organizations
    Original draft of a letter dated January 22, 1943 from the Mount Prospect Men's Club to members of other civic organizations in the village. In it E. H. Cleven, Civci Service Chairman of the club, discusses the Men's Club participation in the drive to obtain a free public library in Mount Prospect. Included in the letter are facts about the current library and information about how the new library would be funded and governed.
