They sailed from Liverpool for America on April 1, 1868 aboard the "City of Paris" arriving in New York City on April 10th. The couple left for Towanda, Illinois in the company of two other families. For two years, George was employed by the month as a farm laborer and Elizabeth did housework for Nelson Jones who lived in the big brick home just north of the site where the Womack's were to later move to. They saved their money and in 1870 moved to the farm known then as the Judge Reeves' farm which they farmed for a number of years and later bought. They lived in the small house that was on the farm for a time and then built a new farm home that still stands. Their grandson, George Raymond Womack III currently lives there.
