Woodmm Bros Excavating
202 East Adams Street Lucille and Raymond Woodrum moved from Normal to Towanda in 1950. They bought a building on Monroe Street, where, for about a year, Ray made concrete burial vaults. He then purchased a backhoe and established Woodrum Excavating. Lucille and Ray had two sons, Terry and Philip, and one daughter, Suzanne. When their sons graduated from high school, they went into business with their Dad, and the company was renamed Woodrum Bros Excavating. Suzanne and her family live in Colorado. Terry died in 1987; his son Eric began working for the company soon after serving three years in the U.S. Army in Germany. John Hedrick has worked for Woodrum Bros since 1971. Over the years, Woodrum Bros Excavating jobs have included digging basements, grading lawns, and digging field tile lines, always conscientious of soil conservation. They now subcontract for businesses in Bloomington-Normal, doing mostly water line and road work. From about 1974-1977, the Woodrums ran a John Deere store in Bloomington, Philip also had a motorcycle shop in uptown Towanda for about a year. They built the home where Lucille now lives.
