July 9th 1840
Dear Cousin
Father has left some room for me to write so I
endeavour to answer your letter which I received long since
as we are seperated some ways apart and have no way of
conversing only by writing. We ought to improve each
opportunity. I am a going to school this summer to Miss
Abiah West who teaches in our school house. My studys are
grammar, (illegible) philosophy and chemistry, reading, writing
and spelling. We are expecting to see Uncle and Aunt and
some of our cousins down this summer. I think it would be
very pleasent to see you and converse with you again. The 4
of July is to be celebrated at Galway Corners in the
Presbyterian Church. The students of the Academy are to
speak in the forenoon and a temperance address to be
delivered in the afternoon there is a concert of
singing and a address to be delivered on music by Mr.
(illegible). You must remember us all to Uncle William, Aunt
Anny and to all your brothers and Sssters and a great
share to yourself. I should like to receive a letter from
any of you and I should endeavor to answer it as well
as I can. I must come to a close for Father is in a
great hurry to go to Post Office and I must not detain
him any longer. You must excuse my bad writing and spelling.
Do write again and I will try to answer it better. Give my
love to all enquiring friends. You must write soon. No more
at present but remain your affectionate cousin. Fanny Hayes
to Margaret Hayes.
