Obituary: Marvin Schmidt: Dr. Marvin E. Schmidt, 75, of 130 Longwood Drive passed away at 1:32 a.m. on Thursday (September 08, 2011) at Graham Hospital in Canton. He was born on August 21, 1936, in Kimmswick, Mo., the son of Erwin H. and Louise (Cooke) Schmidt. Marvin married Rachel Medley on May 5, 1962, in Nashville, Tenn. She survives along with three children, Laurie (Timothy) Moats of Columbus, Ohio, Robin (Terrence) Rock of Decatur, Ga., and Karl (Christine) Schmidt of Overland Park, Kan.; and five grandchildren, Clark and Palmer Moats, Madeline and Jackson Rock, and Emma Schmidt. Marvin graduated from Herculaneum High School, Westminster College (Fulton, Mo.) in 1958, and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1962. Marvin was Director of Graham Hospital Laboratory for 30 years, and Director of Mason District Hospital Laboratory for 35 years. He was a Board Certified Pathologist. He served in the Army as a Captain during the Vietnam Conflict as a Preventive Medical Officer at Ft. Riley Kansas for two years. Marvin was a member of Canton School Board during the building of Eastview and Westview Schools. He also was a member of American Medical Association, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Canton Rotary Club, and First Presbyterian Church in Canton. He was an avid world traveler, tennis player, a life-long St. Louis Cardinals fan, and a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton. The Rev. Ken Churchill will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton. Visitation will be from 3 until 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Memorial Home in Canton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to his church.
