Graham Hospital School of Nursing holds commencement exercises: Senior nursing students at Graham Hospital School of Nursing received their school pins and diplomas during the school’s annual graduation exercise held at Wesley United Methodist Church on Friday, May 18. Twenty-one students were presented for graduation by the Director of the School, Susan Livingston, R.N.C., M.S.N. Student receiving their diploma in nursing were: Angela Cousins, Angela Downing, Tiffany Gibson, and Melissa Stuber all of Canton; Emily Berry, Richard McCoy, Jodi Rohlwing and Kim Spotloe from Lewistown; Chelsea Holtman, Kelly Meyer and Angela Stephens from Havana; Rodney Anderson and Carmen McGrew from Avon; Kevin Lindsey and Jennifer White from Smithfield; Chris McKown from Ellisville; Rachel Bucher from Ipava; Cassie Dams from Cuba; Ashley Hamm from Browning; Annette McQuilkin from Fairview and Carla Sebben from Maquon. Guest speaker for the evening was Katy Tinsman, RN, BSN. Tinsman is a 2003 graduate of the School of Nursing and is employed at Graham Hospital. Other highlights of the program included a class memory video and the presentation of awards and scholarships. The Canton Federated Women’s Club Award for Best All Around Student was presented to Angela Downing, a senior from Canton. Rebecca Baughman, a junior from Smithfield, was announced as the Student of the Year. Student Senate scholarships are awarded t one student from each level and were presented to Yvette Schwartrz, Victor Livingston and Rodney Anderson. Senior Jennifer White was the recipient of the Edna S. Geiger Scholarship which was established in 1982 in memory of Mrs. Geiger who was in the first graduating class at Graham Hospital School of Nursing in 1913. The Bessie Simons Memorial Scholarship was presented to junior, Sharon Franche. Lori Andrew, a junior, was awarded the Mary Orendorff Hammond Scholarship. The Alumni Scholarship was presented to senior, Angela Downing. Kim Spotloe received the Director’s Academic Award which is awarded to the senior student with the highest cumulative GPA. Chris McKown was presented the Genevra Bramble/Sara Carson Scholarship which is given each year to a senior, non-traditional student. The family of Nancy Nelson, a 1970 graduate who worked at Coleman Clinic, established a scholarship in her memory to be awarded every year at graduation. The 2007 recipient of the Nancy Nelson Memorial Scholarship was freshman student Dusty Medina. Robin Grish, a 2006 GHSON graduate, presented Dandy Ward with a scholarship established by the Grish Family as a way to give back to the community that helped Robin achieve her goal of becoming a nurse.
