Graham Hospital School of Nursing holds graduation: Senior nursing students at Graham Hospital school of Nursing received their school pins and diplomas during the school’s annual graduation exercise held at Wesley United Methodist Church on Friday, May 16. Sixteen students were presented for graduation by the Director of the School, Susan Livingston, R.N.C., M.S.N. Students receiving their diploma in nursing were Kristen Howarter, Stephanie Leighton, Erica McCombs, Jessica Miller, and Rachel Taylor all of Canton, Lori Andrew and Jennifer Specketer from Havana, Sharon Franche and Zabdiel Franche from Westmont, Drew Brown and Lottie Havens from Lewistown; Rebekah Baughman from Smithfield; Stephanie Hall from Pekin; Tonja Huff from Hanna City; Victor Livingston from Mahomet; and Haley Timmons from Cuba. Guest speaker for the evening was Delilah Utsinger, RN. Ms. Utsinger is a 2006 graduate of the School of Nursing and is employed at Graham Hospital. Other highlights of the program included a class memory video and the presentation of awards and scholarships. The Canton Federated Women’s Club Award for Best All Around Student was presented to Rebekah Baughman, a senior from Smithfield. Lori Andrew, a senior from Havana, was announced as the Student of the Year. Student Senate scholarships are awarded to one student from each level and were presented to Jessica Koehl, Dandy Ward and Sharon Franche. Senior, Tonja Huff, was the recipient of the Edna S. Geiger Scholarships which was established in 1982 in memory of Mrs. Geiger who was in the first graduating class of Graham Hospital School of Nursing in 1913. The Bessie Simons Memorial Scholarship was presented to freshman Jessica Hagie of Lewistown. Jessi Kay, a junior from Eat Peoria, was awarded the Mary Orendorff Hammond Scholarship. The Alumni Scholarship and the Director’s Academic Aware, which is awarded to the senior student who has the highest cumulative GPA, was presented to snior Jennifer Specketer. Jessica Miller of Canton was presented the Genevra Bramble/Sara Carson Scholarship, which is given each year to a senior, non-traditional student. The family of Nancy Nelson, a 1970 graduate who worked at Coleman Clinic, established a scholarship in her memory to be awarded every year at graduation. The 2007 recipient of the Nancy Nelson Memorial Scholarship was junior student Corrina Stufflebeam. Robin Grish, a 2006 GHSON graduate, presented junior Shad Schneider with a scholarship established by the Grish Family as a way to give back to the community that helped Robin achieve her goal of becoming a nurse.
