Relay for Life Kick-Off event draws many supporters; The eleventh annual Relay for Life Kick-Off event was hosted by the American Cancer Society at the Canton VFW on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those attending enjoyed a chicken or beef and noodle dinner with mashed potatoes, green beans, and a brownie. Each participant received a ticket for the door prize and a beaded necklace to go with the Mardi Gras theme. A table was available with coloring pages in the Mardi Gras theme to keep the children entertained. Those that attended the event were able to speak with Megan Hicklin of the American Cancer Society, Co-Chair for Relay for Life of Fulton County, Kevin Dearing or Team Development Chair for Relay for Life of Fulton County, Ashley Maricle about participation in the event as a team or an individual. Brochures and team packets were available during the event. The Relay for Life Kick-Off event is held annually to help raise funds and recruit more teams for Relay for Life of Fulton County. The kick-off event brought in over 200 people and raised $1,100 towards the cause. “In the past, we had done a breakfast kick-off and we weren’t getting the turnout we were really striving for. However, the lunch turned out great,” said Dearing. Fulton County currently has a total of 16 teams. Relay for Life is still accepting teams and will continue to accept teams until the day of the Relay on Friday, June 3. To guarantee that a team is able to receive t-shirts for the event they should be registered by May 1. Participating in Relay for Life of Fulton County allows residents to help their community and the American Cancer Society save lives. The first team captain meeting will be held at Graham Hospital on March 22 at 7 p.m. The next event to look forward to is the Taste of Relay which will be held at Jones Park in Canton on May 14.
