Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba hosts events, honors helpers: May has been a busy month for everyone at the Clayberg. We have been honored to have several of the Graham Hospital School of Nursing student rotations this past year. On May 6th, a group of nursing students returned to the Clayberg to volunteer their time in planting flowers with residents, cleaning the fish pond and adding gold fish, and sharing lunch together on the patio. The Clayberg residents and staff have hosted an honors achievement reception for each group of students at the conclusion of their clinical rotations. Pictured here is the most recent student group; Instructor Sue Barth and Senior Students Tara Adams, Josh Wilkinson, Kay Bitner, Elizabeth Crafton, Phyllis Link, and Katie Dye. Residents and staff were also pleasantly surprised on May 6 with family member Richard Kauzlarich of M&R Cleaning Systems in Easton when he and a co-worker spent two days at the Clayberg volunteering their time and equipment to power wash and clean the exterior of the building, the patio, the garden walk ways and the maintenance garage. Mr. Kauzlarich states, “I want to do this for the Clayberg. You have been so good to my mother.” We at the Clayberg recognize the generous donation of time and resources received not only this month but also throughout the year. What an honor it is for our elders to be recipients of such love and care by family and friends. The Clayberg residents and staff have been celebrating Nursing Home Week with daily events and activities for all. Highlights of the week have included a Mother’s Day Tea with Tiffany Deakin, harpist providing entertainment; the Melotone Choir led by Bill and Bea Lane; Cuba High School Student Art presentation by Instructor Casey Knott and artwork displayed throughout the week, a pet show; a farm tractor show by Richard Howarter; Violinist Jon Lane; Native American Rudy Vallejo from East Moline; Employee Service Recognitions; birthday Bingo with Nike Hays Fulton County Administrator; Cook-out Lunch; an auction and many other fun activities.
