STEP UP BLACK HISTORY MONTH OBSERVANCES THROUGHOUT CHURCHES, COMMUNITY GROUPS MID NORTHWESTERN By CCC Publicitor Melvin S. Smith
Hallelujah! The /\merican Black Giant is awakening with a black awareness that is of extreme importance to his survival in a nation which, thanks to Reagan, has become increasingly racist at every level of our national life. Even in Evanston the spirit of togetherness is catching on with all kinds of programs in progress throughout the community.
Unfortunately, many of the projects offered are held on dates that conflict with those of other sponsors. All of them, however, are of such interest and depth that we encourage our CCC subscribers to arrange to attend whichever program they find convenient to their schedule.
For CCC readers who receive this issue of CCC early enough, they are invited to share with th, Foster Senior Citizens Club a Black History Month emphasis on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 1 PM at the Fleewood-Jourdain Center, Foster & Dewey.
Joseph E. Hill, former District 65 Superintendent of Schools, will discuss "Black History: Our Pride is Showing." A lifelong Evanstonian, he is fully prepared and capable of presenting black history from an angle everyone can appreciate.
LU PALMER AT SPRINGFIELD ON SATURDAY, FEB. 19 "Black Strategy in the 21st Century." That is the topic to be explored by Lu Palmer, celebrated former Chicago Daily News columnist and radio commentator who was dropped by Illinois Bell Telephone Company sponsors because he was "too outspoken" in his views supporting black America.
Springfield Baptist Church, in conjunction with others in the community, will present the Black History Month observance on Saturday, Feb. 19,
at the church, 1801 Emerson (at Darrow). Chairing the program will be Oliver Ruff, Director of Mt. Zion Baptist Church's "Get In the Know" tutoring program for black youth in elementary, junior high and high schools.
Everyone is urged to mark their calendar and plan to be present on this special occasion, for Mr. Palmer is one of Chicagoland's most profound spokesmen on matters relating to the progress of
blacks in Chicago and America.
"EBENEZER'S SALUTE TO BLACK HISTORY"
Ebenezer ME Church has arranged a dynamic Black History Month salute, starting Monday, Feb. 14, at 7 PM when Rev. O. L. Powell of Ebenezer, Dr. Hycel B. Taylor of Second Baptist, Dr. John F. Norwood of Mt. Zion Baptist, and Bishop Carlis Moody of Faith Temple will discuss black history, and "Echoes of Grace and Faith Temple Choirs will sing.
Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 7 PM, Dr. Larry Murphy will be guest speaker, and Ebenezer choirs plus the Northwestern Community Ensemble will proved music.
Saturday, Feb. 19, from 11 AM to 1 PM "Black Leadership Seminars" will feature Dr. Dorothy William, Jr. Leon Forrest, Dr. Sherman Beverly and Jawanza Kunjufu.

WILD BUNCH PLEADS: BE OUR VALENTINE! AT MASONIC HALL ON SATURDAY, FEB. 12

Saturday is Abraham Lincoln's birthday.
Most blacks and some whites celebrate it because as a Civil War move Lincoln freed some slaves, but not all of our ancestors. As a thank you tribute to Lincoln, then, and also as a forerunner to the annual day of expressing love, the Wild Bunch holds its Pre-St. Valentine's Day Dance on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Masonic Temple, from 9 PM on,
Entree, for guests 21 years of age, plus, is $3 in advance, $4 at the door; advance tickets are available from any Wild Bunch member, or by phoning CCC at 475-5141.
The Wild Bunch Lincoln-St. Valentine's Day double celebration has a double purpose: One to rebuild its treasury; and two, to apply those funds to projects designed to lift the spirits of the youth, the elderly, and all other members of our Community Family.
Our Annual free Fish Fry; Free Fishing trip for youth; Free Back-to-School Family Day Picnic; and Free Feast of Thanksgiving for Elders, Shut-ins, Wheel Chair and Handicapped guests will ful fill our self-chosen 1983 mission.
We fell a bit behind in our schedule of promotions to finance our ambitious projects, and encourage everyone to patronize our St.
Valentine's Day fundraiser.
