Environmental Pathways 61 3—What Kind of Pollution Issues Affect Illinois?
Wrap Up
Assessment
Have students brainstorm a list of possible
sources of the air pollution they found. Divide
the list into natural and man-made sources.
Ask them if they think any of the pollutants are
preventable.
Have each student pick a pollution source and
develop a way of preventing or reducing the
pollution that comes from it. Their results can
be in the form of a model or a written paper.
Extensions
Community
• Do the experiment a second time, and have
the students take the strips home or to places
within the community. Have them do a com-parison
to the results they had at the school.
Multidisciplinary
• Allow students to design posters to show
the steps they took to acquire the data. Create
a bulletin board where students can display
their posters and monitoring strips so that the
class can compare all results.
