REPAIR
Outreach seminar instructors Al Santini and Scot
Manna are highly regarded among Outreach
seminar attendees as the type of instructors they
can relate to. They are experts who enthusiastically present
technical material in a way that attendees can grasp and
use to help make emissions-related repairs an integral part
of their businesses. Seminar graduates are well represented
in the Repair Facility Performance Report with high Repair
Effectiveness Indexes (REIs) that translate into successful
and cost effective repairs for their customers.
Both instructors have developed the seminars they present.
Outreach seminars are geared to enhance the skills technicians
already have through formal training and experience. They do
not include hands-on training.
Al Santini has been with the Outreach Seminar program
since 2001 when he introduced a three-part series designed to
help technicians diagnose and repair IM240 failures. For many
years, he was the lead instructor for the highly regarded
College of DuPage (COD) automotive program and has
trained many of the automotive instructors teaching at local
colleges today. Al also has written several automotive
publications. He is retired from COD but remains dedicated to
keeping the repair industry informed by providing the latest
training and information on repairing emissions failures. This
year, Al will be leading the updated How to Fix an OBDII
Failure, Using a Digital Storage Oscilloscope for Emission
Failures, How to Fix an IM240 Failure, Shop
Management for Emissions Success, How to Diagnose &
Repair OBDII P0300 Codes, and Repair Techniques:
(Evap Systems and Using Mode 6 Data) seminars.

Editor’s Note: A special thanks to our seminar leaders
for their dedicated efforts to help make the Outreach
program unique and unmatched in the Repair Industry. Al
Santini has been with the program since its beginning and
has developed special materials and trained thousands of
seminar participants. Scot Manna, the newest member of
the team, brings special expertise and teaching experience
to a program rich in the tradition Outreach has
established. The results of all of the efforts by our
instructors and members of the Repair Industry have gone
a long way toward assuring the success of the vehicle
Al Santini emissions testing program in Illinois.
