Massac County Transfer opened in Metropolis in 2007
All five transfer stations voluntarily reported to the Agency that they
handled 136,797 tons of municipal waste during 2008. Massac
County Transfer opened in Metropolis on Sept. 12, 2007.
Therefore, 2008 is its first complete year of operation.

Tons of landscape waste handled up to 38.3 percent
The region’s two compost facilities, both located in Williamson
County reported handling 2,391 tons of landscape waste, 663 more
tons than the amount accepted in the previous year, up 38.3 percent.

Nonhazardous Solid Waste Management and Landfill Capacity in Illinois: 2008 R7.3
At Perry Ridge Landfill, Phase IA-Southwest and Phase 1B-East
opened in March 2007. In Phase 1B-Central, the northern part
opened in January 2008 and the southern part opened in September
2008 at the same landfill.
At Southern Illinois Regional Landfill, a seven acre Cell C was
approved for the waste disposal in December 2006. Cell D, an 11.8
acre cell, opened in September 2008 at the same facility.
At Veolia ES Sumner Landfill Inc. Cell 5 East (3.78 ac.) opened in
May 2006. Cell V.B (less than one acre) was approved to accept
waste in December 2008. At its landfill in Fairfield, Area IID also
opened for waste disposal in February 2006.
At West End Disposal Facility, Phase 2, Cell 1 opened in April
2006. Phase 2, Cell 2 waste disposal operations were approved in
March 2009 at the same facility.
