93.566 REFUGEE AND ENTRANT ASSISTANCESTATE-ADMINISTERED PROGRAMS
The program provides funds under two categories, each of which is presented separately below
in order to provide as much detail as possible concerning the purpose, formula, and funding for
each unit.
(1) REFUGEE ASSISTANCE—CASH/MEDICAL
Program Description: The program subsidizes states for their share of the cost of cash and
medical assistance to refugees.
Formula Description: States are reimbursed for expenditures on eligible beneficiaries. There
is no statutory formula or matching requirement for the refugee medical assistance program.

(2) REFUGEE ASSISTANCE—SOCIAL SERVICES
Program Description: The program is designed to reimburse states for part of the cost of so-cial
services provided to specific refugee populations. The scope of services is similar to those
in the regular domestic public assistance programs and includes state public assistance pay-ments.
It also includes English language training, counseling, and employment services.
Formula Description: Funds are distributed on the basis of the number of new refugees esti-mated
to reside in a state for less than three years.
