PROCLAMATIONS
influence on our culture, economy and civic life is growing at an exponential rate;
and
WHEREAS, more than 1.5 millions Hispanics live in Illinois, making up 13 percent of our
population, constituting the fastest-growing minority group, and playing a vital
role in the diversity of our state's citizenry; and
WHEREAS, on Friday, February 20, the Chicago Auto Show, in cooperation with Telemundo
Chicago, will present the highly anticipated Hispanic Day at the Auto Show,
featuring a variety of special appearances, events, interactive displays, and
promotions. It is fitting that on this occasion we recognize the economic and
cultural contributions the Hispanic community makes to our state:
THEREFORE, I, Pat Quinn, Governor of the State of Illinois, do hereby proclaim February 20,
2009 as HISPANIC DAY AT THE AUTO SHOW in Illinois.

Desert Storm Remembrance Day
WHEREAS, since the birth of this great nation, millions of brave American men and women
have courageously answered the call to defend their country's ideals of freedom
and democracy; and
WHEREAS, eighteen years ago, over 600,000 members of the United States Armed Forces
risked their lives in the Persian Gulf to liberate Kuwait during Operation Desert
Storm, some making the ultimate sacrifice for their country; and
WHEREAS, the men and women who served in the United States Armed Forces during
Operation Desert Storm have earned the gratitude and respect of their nation; and
WHEREAS, the observance of the 18th anniversary of Operation Desert Storm allows citizens
throughout Illinois, and across the country, the opportunity to honor those who
served during this conflict for their valor and selflessness:
THEREFORE, I, Pat Quinn, Governor of the State of Illinois, do hereby proclaim February 28,
2009 as DESERT STORM REMEMBRANCE DAY in Illinois, and order all State facilities to
fly their flags at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on this day in honor and remembrance of
those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our country.
