STUDENT CHARACTERISTICS DATA
Chapter II presents student demographic data by gender, attendance status, age, race or national
origin, and residence of students enrolled in Illinois colleges and universities. Data for this chapter are from
the Illinois Board of Higher Education's 2002 Fall Enrollment Survey.
Gender
Table II-1 presents headcount enrollments by gender and level of instruction for each Illinois
public and independent institution.
Attendance Status
Table II-2 presents headcount enrollments by attendance status (full-time vs. part-time) and level
of instruction for each Illinois public and independent institution.
Age
Tables II-3 and II-4 present age distributions of Illinois students by type of institution. Table II-3
presents age distribution by levels of instruction (by student category, for community colleges), while Table
II-4 presents the distribution of age by gender for undergraduate and graduate students.
Tables II-5 and II-6 present age distributions by attendance status and type of institution for
undergraduate and graduate students, respectively. Community college data are subdivided by student
category.
Table II-7 presents median age of students by gender and level of instruction for each Illinois
public and independent institution.
Race or National Origin
Tables II-8 and II-9 present enrollments by race or national origin for Illinois institutions.
Table II-8 provides aggregate data by type of institution, while Table II-9 provides race or national origin by
level of instruction and by type of institution.
Table II-10 presents enrollments at Illinois community colleges by race or national origin and by
program classification.
Residency
Table II-11 presents the home state of first-time freshmen enrolled in Illinois colleges and
universities by type of institution.
Figure II-1 presents enrollments by sector and gender in a graphical format.
Figure II-2 presents enrollments by race or national origin in Illinois colleges and universities in a
graphical format.
