WHY NOT REMODEL THE PRESENT BUILDING?
Impossible. The building was never intended to be a public library. It was constructed as a family residence before the turn of the century. It had been renovated and redone for a temporary library until every foot of space is utilized and there is no way to increase its capacity.
HAVE LIBRARY SERVICES INCREASED AND IS THE LIBRARY USED MORE?
In the last eight years the number of persons using the library has tripled and the circulation of books has doubled. In 1960 the Dundee Township Library had 6,251 patrons. Today there are 18,034. Circulation was 116,004 in 1960 compared to 235,150 now.
HOW DO THESE FIGURES COMPARE WITH OTHER FOX RIVER VALLEY LIBRARIES?
Only the Aurora library has a larger list of patrons and higher circulation figures than Dundee Township Library. Elgin has more books, but it is impossible for us to increase shelf load until we get more space.
