The Hitch Inn Post Motel and Cabriolet Restaurant, located on the southwest corner of North Milwaukee Avenue and Route 137, was built, owned and operated for many years by Mr. Earl R. Young. He established the business in 1958, constructing the motel on land that was once the family farm. Mr. Young decided to invest in a motel business after International Harvester located in Libertyville and their business travelers needed a convenient place to stay.
The original motel had only 16 units, which featured "air-conditioned and carpeted rooms with free Hi-Fi - Television - Room Phones." Over the years the complex became quite large, eventually expanding to 144 rooms. In addition to the restaurant and motel, it included a theatre and a par 3 golf course with a lake, located on 96 acres of lovely rolling countryside.
