View of the Lake County Poor Farm. Early in Lake County's history the commissioners voted to purchase a county farm for the purpose of caring for the poor and those who were unable to maintain themselves. Commissioner Alva Trowbridge sold the county 190 acres of his own land adjoining Libertyville, including a house and farm buildings, for $2,025. Some consitutuents protested the integrety of the deal and eventually the farm was sold to another party, except for 40 acres and the buildings. Later the county bought it back at a higher price.
