Description | Farm Residence of ABSALOM SAMUEL Deceased. Now the Residence of ABSALOM M. SAMUEL. Sec. 3, Burton TP. Adams Co. ILLS. (pg 89.) BW Drawing 8” x 6”. ABSALOM SAMUEL was born in Culpepper county, Virginia, January 10th, 1833. His ancestral descent was Hebrew and German. When about thirty year of age he was married, his wife living but a short time, leaving an infant son, who is still living. Mr. Samuel was afterwards married to Miss Mary Young, who was also a native of Virginia. In the winter of 1837, they moved to Hancock county, Illinois and in 1852, moved to Adams county, where he bought a farm in what is now Burton township. They have had a family of five children, two of whom are deceased. Four of his children are living, including the son of the first wife. In early life, Mr. Samuel and wife, both joined the old-school Baptist church. He died at his residence on the 9th of October, 1871. The widow is yet living at the old homestead. (pg 79.) BW Document 4” x2.25”. A.M. SAMUEL, Burton Township. – This property was purchased by Absalom Samuel, deceased, in 1851. At that time there was a dwelling on the premises. This was remodeled by Mr. Absalom Smith in 1869. There are three good wells and two cisterns for the house, and tow large ponds to supply water for the stock. The yard is shaded with maple, pine, arbor-vitae, walnut, and persimmon trees. The barn was erected in 1842. The carriage house is the most prominent of the outbuildings. The orchard contains one hundred and twenty fruit trees of the usual varieties. There are four hundred rods of hedge. One hundred and eighty acres are under cultivation and eighty are in grass and pasture. (pg 94.) BW Document 4” x 2”. |
