View of Randalls Stove Establishment in Quincy . (pg 25) . BW Drawing 4.25 " x 6.5 ". H . Randall , Proprietor Stove , Tinware , and Furnace Store , 717 Hampshire street , Quincy . - The store building is a three-story brick structure , having iron columns , caps , and cornices . It was erected by the present proprietor , Mr . Randall , in 1868 . The ground on which it stands was purchased by Mr . R . of B.F . Berrian , in 1866 . The dimensions of the building are as follows , viz : Front , twenty-six feet ; depth , eighty feet ; height , forty-two feet . Mr . Randall's line of business is chiefly in furnishing hot-air furnaces , with outfits , & c . for private use and public buildings . His circle of operations for this specialty extends to a great distance , being not only in this county , but also in the adjoining and more distant counties of Illinois and Missouri . Nearly all of the first-class private and public buildings recently built in this section of Illinois and the eastern counties of Missouri are supplied with his patterns of furnace . In Quincy , most of the leading churches , especially St . Peter's. , St . Mary's . Christian , and others , are patrons of Mr . Randall . In August , 1871 , Mr . Randall perfected and patented an improved furnace , which effects a saving of at least twenty per cent of coal , by means of a "double body " and extending radiating surface . At the present time is making extensive preparations for the manufacture and sale of this peculiar economical furnace , which is constructed on entirely new principles . Orders are pouring in - some of them from parties who desire this style to replace that of other manufacturers . This furnace is destined to effect a revolution in heating apparatus , and is laying the foundation of a business which will extend over the length and breadth of the entire country . We are aware of the large number of demands already made , and these indicate an immense trade during the coming season . Mr . Randall also attends to the putting on of roofing , iron cornices , bell hanging , & c . He is worthy of his reputation as a first- class merchant , and the people generally have great confidence in his business capacity . In the social circle , also, he is popular , and has favored all the improvements which have made Quincy a leading commercial city . No one , on visiting the Gem City , should fail to visit his establishment and note the improvements recently introduced in furnaces . (pg 103) . BW Document 4 " x 5.5 ".
