Description
South Park located at 12th and Harrison Streets in Quincy was officially opened to the public May 18 , 1895 . It soon became a popular place for picnics , but there was no shelter house for protection from bad weather . The first stone shelter house was built in 1917 . Later a bandstand and a golf course would be constructed on the grounds . The Carl Landrum Bandstand was dedicated August 30 , 1987 . Currently [2012] South Park consists of 135 acres located at 12th & Harrison Streets . It is a great summer and winter park . It has ample sledding over the many rolling hills . In the summer you can pitch horseshoes , play tennis , soccer , baseball , or climb around on the playground equipment . There are three shelter houses equipped with electricity , picnic tables , drinking fountains , grills , and restrooms . You can have a leisurely picnic , go fishing or take a walk on one of the many walking paths . BW Exterior Photograph 6 1/2 " x 5 1/8 ".
