#001 The Worlds Congress Auxiliary Scrapbook, p. 0787 now for so many years by many churches the world over, and also to the topics of the International Sunday School Lessons, the union programmes of the Christian Endeavor Societies, and many other organizations. Admitting even that a degree of force and effectiveness might be lost in some individual cases by following "a cut and dried programme," the question is whether this would not be vastly more than offset in general by the mighty impetus which the united and combined efforts of the press of the country could give to any reform movement. It is suggested as a further step, to secure the best results from the combined utterances of the press on a given topic, that on the week succeeding such publica- tion each paper in the combination should give to its readers as large a number of brief extracts as possible, from the editorials of its contemporaries of the previous week. Such a presentation might be made more effect- ive than the first, as it would show to the readers of each paper, as nothing else could, something of the strength of general public sentiment on the question at issue. It is also suggested that a still mightier impetus may be given to these reform movements under con- sideration, if the churches, Y. M. C. Associations, Christian Endeavor Societies, and religious and reform- atory agencies in general, may be induced to join in the union programme as far as practicable. Following, will he found a list of the newspapers which have thus far agreed to follow the union pro- gramme of topics. An attempt has been made to secure a fairly representative list, but not a very extensive one. It is thought that the list of newspapers approving and the commendations which follow, are sufficient to secure the adoption of the plan by all who would lie inclined to adopt it under any circumstances. The plan is simple and speaks for itself. This circular has been delayed somewhat so that it will be impossible for many papers to make adequate preparation for the first topic on the list. But this will not prevent their falling in line with the others that follow. While it is by no means necessary to the success of this movement that the names and exact number of those entering into it should be made known to any one, it may serve a useful purpose hereafter if all the editors receiving this circular note who decide to follow the programme, so far as practicable, wdl indicate that fact by a postal card, or otherwise, sent to La Salle A. Maynard, Boom 21, Times Building, New York. Suggestions and other communications in regard to the plan will be gladly received. COMMITTEE. Rev. R T. Middleditch. D. D., Christian Inquirer. Prof. V.
