#001 The Worlds Congress Auxiliary Scrapbook, p. 0728 The Funk & Wagnalls Company's Periodicals "The Literary Digest ;" "The Homiletic Re- view ; " "The Missionary Review of the World," and "The Voice." THE LITERARY DIGEST. "The Literary Digest" is a Weekly Compendium of the Contemporaneous Thought of the World. It is found by its subscribers to be indispensable as enabling them to keep abreast of the times in all departments of knowledge. It is a neces- sity for all who have neither the time to read all the best periodicals of the world, nor the money to spare the purchase them. " The Literary Digest" tells what thousands of men, many of whose views may differ from yours, are thinking about; it opens for its subscribers small windows from which they behold the great intellectual move- ments of the world. It puts at the disposal of its readers ideas and documents which are scattered among all nations. It is a periodical summary of the human mind. It selects, condenses, translates, etc., each week, the best articles from the leading magazines, journals, and reviews of the world. Its Book Digests are not reviews, "books notices," nor critiques, but faithful Digests, letting the book tell its own story. Its Cosmopolitan Chronicle of Current Events, and its Index of Current Literature each week, can be cut out and filed, for ready reference at any time. Its carefully selected and Classified Extracts, each week, from the Press of the United States and Europe, on all Vital Topics of the day, are alone worth the sub- scription price for a year, A copious and valuable Index to the whole, at end of each volume, is given free to subscribers. The subscription price is but $3.00 per year ; single copies, 10 cents. A single volume, consisting of twenty-six numbers, contains six hundred and seven articles from magazines, as follows: Eighty American, 56 English, 89 French, 28 German, and 27 from magazines published in Denmark, Finland, Italy, India, Je- rusalem, Korea, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Spain, and Turkey ; on subjects : 126 Po- litical, 124 Sociological, 119 Educational, etc., 128 Science, 69 Religious, and 41 Miscel- laneous. Also about 2,000 extracts from the press of this country and Europe, including extracts from newspapers from Canada, Jamaica; Panama, Brazil, Chili, England, Ireland, France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Egypt, Africa, India, China, Japan, New Zealand, and Hawaii, all carefully trans- lated into English, by our editorial staff, especially for "The Literary Digest." Oliver Wendell Holmes writes: "'The Literary Digest' seems to me to supply a want which is felt alike by professional scholars and common readers." A. P. Peabody, D.D., LL.D., Cambridge, Mass., writes: "'The Literary Digest' will be of more substantial" value to men whe are both reading and working men than any other existing periodical." Representative men in all walks of life write in commendation of this periodical. No intelligent reader should be without it. CONTINUED ON THIRD PAGE OF COVER.
