#001 The Worlds Congress Auxiliary Scrapbook, p. 0676 gresses in the course of the Exposition season, all intended to show the moral, social and intellectual advancement of the world at the present time. The Directory will provide suitable places for meeting, and will extend to scientists in attendance all conveniences and courtesies consistent with the aims of the Auxiliary. It is expected that arrangements will be made to secure the publication, in extenso, of the proceedings of the various Congresses and the important papers to be presented at their sessions. These publications will be a memo- rial of the civilization of the Nineteenth century. As a general and preliminary indication of the scope and character of this Congress the Local Committee suggest the following PRELIMINARY LIST OE SUBJECTS PGR CONSIDERATION: 1. General history and evolution, and the present status and tendencies of the Geological Sciences. 2. The history and evolution of American Geology. 3. Status and tendencies of Geological Science in America. 4. Geological Surveys and the Modern State. 5. Genesis of ore deposits. 6. Genesis of precious stones. 7. Mineral decompositions and transformations. 8. The horizon of no strain. 9. The existence of a plastic substratum. 10. Permanence of continents. 11. Origin of reversed faults. 12. Geological climates. 13. The glaciers as an agent in erosion. 14. Chemical methods for the detection of minute quantities of the metals in crystalline rocks. 15. Geology of coal and coal measures. 16. The relation of State Surveys to Economic Geology. 17. Fossil fuels. 18. Fertilizers and soils. 19. Abrasives and pigments. 20. The qualities of structural materials. 21. Principles of Nomenclature in Paleontology. 22. Means of geographical distribution in geologic times.
