#005 World Congress of Religious Bound Correspondence, p. 446 Tower Hill, Hillside, Wisconsin. Rev. L. J. Duncan, Streator, Ill. Dear Duncan:-- I shall work on dates suggested, though, for the sake of more time I should have preferred the later data, particularly as next week will be taken out of my correspondence time, as I hope to ride through from here to Chicago, arriving there a week from Monday, but I will start the work as much as I can before I go. It is rather risky to precipitate a date on the public before consulting with a few of the most necessary speakers, but I will write Thomas and Hirsch today. I enclose a copy of the slip which may or may not help the soliciting committee. All things considered, I shall ask you, as indicated, to be chairman to solic- it the Independants. Push out as far as you can among the non- eccelesiastical organizations such as you have mentioned, and I will ask Stolz for the Jews and White for the Universalists. The Unitarians I do not know how to handle. Not knowing what has passed between you and Fenn, I am working in the dark. I do not wish to seem discourteous to the Illinois Conference. I think they ought to be asked to co-operate with us as a Conference, giving them time for an executive session. Whether you as Sec- retary of that Conference will accept this as an official invi- tation from me as Secretary of the Congress, or whether you as a local organization will extend the invitation through the Presi- dent of the Conference for that body to meet with you at this time, is a matter I cannot decide for want of further knowledge. May I leave it to your judgment? I am inclined to think that the latter plan would be the most acceptable. Let there go from you an invitation to Mr. Fenn to have the I.U.C. meet in connection with the Illinois State Congress, etc. No more at present. Hastily yours, Jenkin Lloyd Jones Sept.22, 1894.
