#001 The Worlds Congress Auxiliary Scrapbook, p. 0257 Any other Associations which may desire to hold such conferences, are requested to communicate with the Chairman of either branch of this Com- mittee, and every opportunity will be afforded them for independent gather- ings compatible with the general plan of the Congresses. It is also desired that members of such Societies as do not themselves desire to hold special meetings, shall send to one of the Chairmen of this Local Committee the names of such persons as they consider best fitted to represent their work, either by the presentation of papers for the Congress, or by taking part in the discussions. The Local Committee also wishes to receive suggestions as to methods of work, topics for discussion, and suitable persons to treat special subjects. The Advisory and Honorary Members of the Congress are particularly requested to interest themselves in this direction, and to make suggestions on any point. Only by the hearty co-operation of all, both here and elsewhere, can these Congresses become what they should be, and productive of the benefit desired. We desire, and courteously ask for, ideas and suggestions along these lines--your own thought upon such of these subjects as you have considered--which will be collated and presented for the use of these Con- gresses; and your own active co-operation with us for the attainment of this aim is respectfully invited. Notes.--In dividing the Committee into Sub-Committees, it may be of interest to the Advisory and Honorary Members to understand a little more of the system of classification. Under the head of Philanthropy are classed all branches of so-called charity, which do not practice alms-giving, such as Women's Exchanges, Lodging Houses, Newsboys' and Bootblacks' Homes, Humane Societies, Provident Associations, etc. Under Prevention are classed Industrial Schools, Children's Missions, Children's Aid Societies, Day Nurseries, etc. Under Charity are classed Relief Societies, Orphan Asylums, Homes for Old People, for Incurables, for Convalescents, Hospitals, the work of Little Sisters of the Poor, Fresh Air work, Soup Houses, etc., etc.
