#005 World Congress of Religious Bound Correspondence, p. 263 June 5th, His Highness, Sir Jotendro Mohun Tagore, K.C.S.I.-C.I.E., Paturiaghatta, Calcutta. Respected Sir:-- At the suggestion of our mutual friend, Mr. Dharmapala, Secretary of the Mah-Bodhi Society of Calcutta, I send you a copy of a book entitled the Chorus of Faith, which is a book of selec- tions from the proceedings of the great Parliament of Religions held in our City last September. I beg to call your special attention to the marked passages on pages 305 and 326 of this book and as your opinion of the possibility of holding in Benar- es, in the year 1900, a second World's Parliament of Religions, patterned after the one held in Chicago in 1893, subject to such modifications as time, place and experience would necessitate. I will make no further suggestion in this letter, but if the idea meets with your approbation and we can count on your co-operation, I shall be very glad to serve such a purpose in any way you may suggest. The initiative would have to come from your end of the line and must be projected by gentlemen of such position and cul- ture as would command the respect of the Oriental constituency as well as enlist the co-operation of the Western Brethren. I also venture to send you by the same post; a copy of a series of pamphlets on the Great Teachers of Religions, published by myself, hoping you will accept them with my compli- ments. Trusting I may hear from you in due time, I am Very respectfully yours, Jenkin Lloyd Jones 175 Dearborn St. Chicago Ill
