Transcript
Gonderauge Duchy of Luxemburg Nov . 26 , 1918 Dear Sister , Received your letter yesterday , dated Oct 24 and marked no . 1 . I suppose you know by now that the war is over . Nearly all of the censorly restrictions have been removed and we can now tell where we are. I am in a neutral country now , about the size of a county at home . We are with the third American army or the army of invasion and are on our way to Germany . This army is comprised of the [Page 2] veteran fighting troops of the A.E.F . who were in practically all of the key engagements the Americans fought . My outfit missed the drive at St . Michiel but we were in the Chateau Therry and Verdun offences . We were on the Verdun front when the end came in a little town called Hunsur [?]-Meuse . I am in good health and getting along fine and I don’t suppose it will be a great while before [Page 3] we return home . We are not far from the German border and I guess we will soon cross into Germany . I don’t suppose we will stay there long though . A lot of the fellows expect to be home by January . I am so sorry you and mother were sick and I am glad you are all right now . I had a tough of the “flu” last spring in Bourges but I was only sick a few days . The whole company was sick but I was in Paris at the [Page 4] Time and when I returned it was just in time to get a touch of it . I guess Welby missed going to war after all . Well , I have several more letters to write , so I will close for this time . Your loving brother Corp . Carl L . Ross Co . D . 52 Tel Bn S.c . American E.F . [Envelope] Corp . Carl L . Ross M.S.A .
