MAX BIESENTHAL Conference of Jewish Women's Organ-izations assemble at the afternoon ses-sion 'on Monday, January 22. Participating in the symposium "How Shall We Plan For The Chicago Of The Future?" will be Mr. Ernest Grunsfeld who will present the Mas-ter Plan and Legislation and Research needed to bring the plan to reality, and Mr. Joel Hunter who will discuss the part to be fulfilled by public housing in the clearing of the slums. Mrs. Maurice Pollak, who has written a number of studies on housing, will act as moderator. At the morning session the noted educator, historian and biographer, Dr. A. L. Sachar, will present the third in a series of four informal talks on "Jewish Education in America." Mrs. Max Biesenthal is the president. This Week's Cover PETER SAMPSON General Chairman The Jewish Charities 1945 Campaign for $755,000 As General Chairman of The Jewish Charities 1945 Campaign for $755,000, to make up the deficit in a $2,050,000 budget, Mr. Sampson heads this Jewish community's major fund-raising effort. This is the second consecutive year that Mr. Sampson has served as General Chairman of a Jewish Charities Campaign. In the current Campaign, Mr. Sampson has gathered about him a group of outstanding men and women, to serve as Chairmen in the sixty trades Divisions, in the Women's Division, in the Folks Division, and in the Advance Gifts Division. Born in Chicago in 1891, Mr. Sampson went into business for himself at an early age. In 1921 he established the Sampson Electric Company. Married to the former Genevieve Rosenthal, they have three children, two of whom are married. Mr. and Mrs. Sampson live at 3920 Lake Shore Drive. Mr. Sampson has been a member of the Board of Directors of The Jewish Charities since 1938, and has served as Chairman of many of its most important Committees. He was Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors of Temple Sholom for five years. He is Past President of the Bryn Mawr Country Club, and now serves as a member of its Board of Directors. And he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Standard Club. In addition to his tasks as General Chairman of The Jewish Charities Campaigns for the past two years, Mr. Sampson has given service to Chicago's Community and War Fund Campaigns each year.
