The concert will mark an important event in Chicago cultural life, which has not only aroused local but also in-ternational interest. In a letter to Mor-ris Alexander, Chairman of the Jubi-lee Committee of the Choral Society, Eliahu Elath, Israeli Ambassador to the United States pointed out that, ' . You no doubt know of the great part which music plays in the daily life of Israel, and I regard it as an in-piring sign and an awareness of spirit-ual bonds with my country that your Society has chosen a Biblical theme for the main item in its program and will follow this with songs of Israel. I send you my best wishes for the oc-casion and hope to hear after my re-turn from my trip to Israel, that the concert has been a great success. Tickets for the concert may be ob-tained at the Orchestra Hall box of-fice. a Jubilee Concert, Sunday, June 12 8 p.m. at Orchestra Hall. Under the direction of its regular conductor the group will present the Chicago Prem-ier performance of Handel's Biblical oratorio "Joshua". Starring the Metropolitan Opera Tenor Jan Pearce as its featured solo-ist, in his only local performance this season, the Society will also present a selection of Folk Songs, Schaefer com-positions, and songs of the new State of Israel. This Week's Cover EUGENE MALEK Eugene Malek, conductor of the Jewish Peoples Choral So-ciety for the past 15 years, presented numerous classic and contem-porary oratorios and other compositions at Orchestra Hall and the Civic Opera House in Chicago. He established the organizations as one of the great choral groups in the city, conducted a combined chorus at the Chicago Stadium, celebrating the Proclamation of the State of Israel. Malek also is active in the general promotion of Jewish music in the Chicago community, conducting temple choirs, and children school choruses. Malek will conduct the 35th Annual Jubilee Concert of the Society this Sunday at Orchestra Hall (see story above).
