K.'S JEWISH DAY PLANS IN LONG-DISTANCE GREETING FROM PALESTINE Assurance that Dr. Chaim Weiz-mann, noted Zionist leader, would be in Chicago to participate in the great Jewish Day Celebration to be staged in A Century of Progress grounds, July 3, was given last week in a telephone message from Haifa, Palestine. Dr. Weizmann's call was the first to be made over the newly-opened direct line between Haifa and New York. Speaking to Zionist leaders in New York, the former international head of the Zionist organization voiced ap-proval of the preliminary plans an-nounced for the Jewish Day pageant and predicted an enthusiastic response from the Jews of every nation. In the meantime the plans for stag-ing the epic pageant entitled "Romance of a People" and for bringing 100,000 Jews to Chicago's Soldier Field to wit-ness it are going rapidly forward. Jew-ish leaders from many cities have al-ready announced the perfection of or-ganizations to take charge of local participation in the ceremonies. Others will act in the near future. Cleveland's committee, according to word just received, will be headed by Judge Alfred L. Steuer with Isaak Carmel acting in the capacity of exec-utive director. A large delegation is promised both from Cleveland and from Cincinnati where I. 0. Abrahams has been named chairman of the com-mittee on participation. St. Louis organizations will hold a conference Sunday, April 23, and Mendel Fisher, who has been named executive secretary of the temporary committee, reports plans to send a large delegation to Chicago are under way. In Milwaukee a conference of the principal Jewish organizations has been scheduled for Sunday, April 23, at the Jewish Center where plans for participation will be discussed and de-cided upon. Word has also come from South Bend and from several smaller communities in the Middle West that organization work is under way. The attendance at Jewish Day will be enhanced by many Jewish organiza-tions that plan to hold their annual conventions in Chicago on the same date as the pageant so that their dele-gates may attend both events. These meetings and conventions will bring noted leaders of Jewry from all over the world. The cast is now being assembled for the pageant by Isaac Van Grove, who is in charge of staging the spectacle. All who desire to participate are urged to get in touch at once with Jewish Day headquarters or to attend one of the preliminary rehearsals. Prospective participants can com-municate with Mr. Van Grove at 11 South LaSalle street. Preliminary rehearsals for dancing and dramatic groups will be held Wednesday evening, April 26, at 8 o'clock at the Jewish People's Insti-tute, 3500 Douglas boulevard. Sing-ing groups and other group work will hold preliminary rehearsals Thursday, April 27, at 8 p. m., in the La Salle Hotel ballroom. All who can take part are urged to report for one of the above rehearsals. 3,000 participants will be required for the completed spectacle. SOUTH SHORE TEMPLE 7215 Jeffery Avenue Dr. G.
