'RICA" "RENDEZVOUS DES ELEGANTES" PERSONALITY BAGS YARMO-DE VERE POST TAKES AC-TION ON MOSLEM-JEWISH RIOTS Chicago Jews are taking action on the Moslem-Jewish riots which were reported spreading over Palestine. Members of Yarmo-De Vere post of the American Legion, 90 per cent of whom are of Jewish faith, adopted resolutions seeking from Congress the power to form military units, arm themselves and go fight for the Chi-cago students and others caught in the riot zone. At the same time a group of ortho-dox religious organizations of Jews held a meeting in the Hebrew Theo-logical Seminary, St. Louis avenue and Douglas boulevard, and framed an appeal to the United States govern-ment to intervene. The resolution of the Legionnaires composed the most drastic action: "Be it resolved, that the members of Yarmo-De Vere Post, No. 469, American Legion, 90 per cent of whom are of Jewish faith, importune the President that the government imme-diately communicate to the British Empire, through our state depart-ment, a demand for adequate protec-tion for citizens of the United States. "And be it further resolved, that unless the government of the British Empire takes immediate and drastic action to prevent any further out-breaks, we, as citizens of the United States, ask the Congress that we be empowered to recruit from among our own ranks two machine gun compa-nies, two bombing squadrons, two light tank corps units and auxiliary bodies, so that we can protect the lives and rights of our fellow citizens and co-religionists." Copies of the resolutions were sent to President Hoover, the senators from Illinois, the congressman from the 6th District, James T. Igoe, and the congressmen-at-large. The meeting in the theological semi-nary was one of excitement. There were speeches in Hebrew and there ap-peared to be much dissension. In the end, a committee was appointed to draw up an appeal to the President and the state department, seeking pro-tection for the Jews from the British government.
