During the past year the Anti- Defamation League has distributed among educators, public officials, clergymen, publicists and public libraries, nearly 300,000 pieces of lit-erature in which the nefarious activi-ties of anti-Semitic agencies in this country have been exposed and the charges which they have made, con-clusively answered. The international character of the attacks has also made it necessary to establish branches of the League in other countries. Since June 1, 1920, the Governing Board of the League has held 46 meetings in Chicago. In addition to the B'nai B'rith the following organizations were represented at these meetings: Coun-cil of Jewish Women, Central Confer-ence of American Rabbis, The Union of American Hebrew Congregations and the American Zionist Organiza-tion. Nearly 400 complaints of de-famation and discrimination were acted upon and in addition the Board superintended the conduct of the ed-ucational program which the League is carrying out to bring about better understanding between Jew and non- Jew. The League is informed of the per-sonnel and financial backers of the various anti-Semitic organizations active in this country. Their plan of action is thoroughly understood so that it is possible in many instances to fore-stall and render harmless the efforts which are being made to arouse hatred and fear of the Jew. A typical in-stance occurred during the past few weeks. The National Civic Federation is engaged through its Department on Revolutionary Activities in an invest-igation of radical activities in the United States. The investigation is in the hands of men who are absolutely sincere and who would publish noth-ing which they did not believe to be true. Strange to say, however, they came to rely for information as to Bolshevik propaganda upon a man who has been credited as the leader in much of the anti-Semitic propaganda which has been distributed in this country during the past two years. This man, Boris L. Brasol, is at the head of sev-eral reactionary Russian Societies having headquarters in New York, which are, of course, bitterly anti-Bol-shevik, but which are also bitterly op-posed to any form of government in substitution for Bolshevism which does not restore the autocracy of the noble classes. The facts in reference to Brasol were brought to the notice of all the members of the Executive Council of the National Civic Federa-tion. Proof was submitted to show that Brasol was a leader in the Black Hundred movement in Russia, that he was one of the Government prosecu-tors in the infamous Beilis case, that it was he who brought the forged Protocols to this country, and per-suaded certain leaders of American public opinion that they paralleled pi esent day conditions in Russia, that he was partially responsible for the anti-Semitic policy of a Michigan pub-lication, and that he is constantly engaged through the various Russian organizations which he controls, in preaching his doctrine that Bolshevism i6 a conflict, to use his words, of "Judas vs. Jesus." A protest was made by the League against using Brasol as an authority in any investiga-tion conducted by the Federation, with the result that all the material which he has submitted to. the Federation was re-examined by the Chairman of the Executive Council.
