HOME TREATMENT OF
TUBERCULOSIS

Outdoor Sleeping: Outdoor
sleeping is of material aid in the
treatment of tuberculosis and
there are now available many
types of outdoor porches and
"porch substitutes."
Home Hygiene: For the patient
sleeping out, a comfortable bed
is essential. The Klondike bed
is excellent. It is so constructed
as to give privacy, and protection
from the wind. A light is pro-vided
for reading and looking at
pictures. The bed is suitable for
outdoor sleeping in severe
weather, is easily constructed,
and allows adjustment of the or-dinary
bed clothes in such a way
that the patient sleeps as in a
sleeping bag with all draughts
excluded.
Sound sleep is highly impor-tant.
In fact, unbroken sleep is
one of the most vital essentials in
the cure of tuberculosis. To
quote from Shakespeare:
"Sleep that knits up the raveled
sleeve of care,
The death of each day's life, sore
labour's bath,
Balm of hurt minds, great Na-ture's
second course,
Chief nourisher in life's feast."
Clothing: The proper clothing
for outdoor sleeping may be
summed up in the statement that
the patient should be warm and
comfortable but not overheated.
