THE SENTINEL CONGREGATIONS CONGREGATION RODFEI ZEDEK Friday, January 16, J. S. Hoffman night will be observed at the Congre-gation, Greenwood avenue at 54th place. Sunday, January 18, at 6 p. m., the annual dinner of the Con-gregation will take place at the Chi-cago Beach hotel. Friday, January 23, at 8:15 p. m., Rabbi Daskal will spealr on "Eyes and Ears." Cantor Schiffman will chant the service. Fri-day, January 30, Rabbi Daskal will speak on "Religion in Changing World." Tea and question box after services. All are welcome. The Congregation is introducing a change in its Hebrew School curricu-lum that will include all preparations for the boy's bar mitzvah, in the regu-lar course of study. This recommendation, made by Rabbi Daskal at the last meeting of the board of directors, was received with enthusiasm and will be carried into effect February 1, after which a special bar mitzvah class will meet at Rodfei Zedek, 1022 East 54th place. CONGREGATION B'NAI ISRAEL OF AUSTIN Friday night services are held at the Congregation, 5433 Jackson boulevard, under the supervision of Rabbi L. J. Lehrfield. They are chanted by Can-tor Tolmach. On Friday, January 16, Rabbi Lehrfield will address the Con-gregation, depicting the lives of "Fa-mous Characters of Jewish History." Dr. Ascher H. C. Goldfine will be the speaker of the evening at the Fri-day night services to be held on Jan-uary 23. His subject will be "Con-tributions the Jews Have Made to Medicine." HUMBOLDT BOULEVARD TEMPLE The services on Friday evening, Jan-uary 16, are dedicated to the Hadas-sah and the Sisterhood. Mrs. Bertha Read, vice president of Chicago Hadas-sah, will speak on "The Jewish Woman Takes the Lead." Mrs. Daniel D. Klein, president of the Sisterhood, will give a short report on the activi-ties and plans. Mrs. Samuel Wolberg and Miss Alyce D. Katz will be the readers. Cantor Gorsky will read the service. The choir will present a spe-cial musical program. The registration in the adult He-brew classes is now closed. Should there be, however, a sufficiently large number of beginners to warrant an-other class, it will be arranged for. CONGREGATION B E T H HAMED-SROSH HAGODOL OF ALBANY PARK Services will be conducted in the Synagogue Friday evening, January 16. Cantor Aaron Turner and Choir will render musical selections. Dr. A. E. Abramowitz will speak on "Crossing the Desert." Open Forum is conducted by the Rabbi in the So-cial Center of the Synagogue after the services, at which refreshments are served. The Women's Study Circle will meet Tuesday afternoon at 2:30. The class consists of an hour lecture by Dr. Abramowitz, followed by discus-sion. CONGREGATION B'NAI SHOLOM OF ALBANY PARK "Twentieth Century Woman" (based on "The Second Twenty Years at Hull House") will be the topic for Friday evening, January 16, at 8:15 o'clock, by Dr. Abraham Horvitz. The Mes-dames Aronofsky and Aaronsohn will be hostesses during the social hour and discussion. "A Man in His Generation" (a trib-ute to Nathan Straus) will be the sub-ject for Friday evening, January 23. SOUTH SHORE TEMPLE Friday evening services at 8:15 o'clock, January 16. Dr. G. George Fox will occupy the pulpit. His sub-ject will be: "The Ten Outstanding Jews of All Time." CONGREGATION B E T H JACOB BEZALEL ANSHE MISRACH Daily services, 6 and 7 a. m.; eve-ning services, 4; Friday evening (Ka-bolas Shabbos), 4; Sabbath morning services, 6 and 8; Friday evening late services, 8:15 o'clock. On Friday evening, January 16, Rabbi Teller will speak on "Nathan Straus-The Wise Philanthropist." Cantor Waxer will chant the services. Refreshments and forum after the services. Although the classes in the daily Hebrew and Sunday religious schools are now functioning regularly, it has been decided to allow pupils who have moved into Woodlawn recently to en-roll Sunday, January 18, from 10 to 11 a. m. The school is affiliated with the Chicago Board of Jewish Educa-tion and is personally supervised by Rabbi Teller. On Satur-day, January 17, at 10 a. m., Dr. Taxon will talk on "Two Aspects of Freedom"; at 3:30 p. m. he will speak on "The God Concept in Terms of Time." On Sunday morning, January 18, at 11:15 o'clock, Dr. S. M. Melamed will deliver the regular weekly lecture on "The Growth and Essence of Jewish Culture."
