On Tuesday, Huntley defeated Stillman Valley in the first round of the Class A sectional playoffs, 15-1; 15-5. In game one, which featured only five side-outs, Katie Beth served up 12 points straight, and Jackie Dalleska closed out the final three service points for the win. In the second game, the Redskins spotted the Cardinals tree points before going on a point run to end Stillman Valley's season. On Thursday, Huntley's volleyball team showed that playing on the road is beginning to fit their style, as the Redskins defeated Burlington Central on their own court, 15-5; 15- 11, to claim the Class A Sectional Title. Huntley's balanced attack was led by Lisa Aschenbrenner's eight kills, Katie Beth's six and Kelly Kentgen's four. Beth's 12 service points paced the Redskins, while Aschenbrenner and Dalleska followed with seven and five, respectively. This second straight sectional title set up the rematch l)etween Byron and the Redskins, which was held in Byron Sat. night. Again, the Redskins had to show that they could win on the opponents' home court in a battle that would determine not only who the area volleyball powerhouse was to be, but to decide the Super Sectional Championship; with the winner going down state to the volleyball finals. For the second consecutive year, the "Lady Redskins" have earned that honor. Game one came easy for the Redskins, as Becky Weber served up a total of 10 points. Wel)er's hot hand, which included four straight, gave Huntley a 5-1 lead. The Redskins looked unstoppable for the rest of the way in the first game, going on to the win 15-2. In game two, it was apparent that the Byron Tigers weren't quite ready to concede the trip down state to their conference rival without putting up a good fight.. Lindsey Lane and Katie Beth served Huntley to a 5 -0 lead, but after seven side-outs, the Tigers had clawed their way back to a 6-6 tie. The Tigers bid to tie the match at one game apiece was foiled in part by outstandingdefensive playsby seniors Summer Bakely, Lindsey Lane and Kelly Kentgen. Once again, the Redskins showed a balanced offensive attack being led by Beth's 11 kills, followedby Aschenbrenner's eight. Dalleska hammered six kills, while Kentgen added five to finish off the Tigers by the score of 15-12. The Redskins now advance to the Illinois State High School Volleyball Class A finals, being held this weekend in Bloomington-Normal.
