The purpose of this program is to provide youth the opportunity to look into the World of Fire Fighting and to participate in worth while activities. Exploring is a division of the Boy Scouts of America and is run through the Huntley Fire Department for young men and women ages 14- 20 years old. As an explorer, the team building, public speaking and problem solving. Also, one will leam how to organize time to accomplish tasks for school and for extracurricular activities. Get going in the right direction and start your journey with Exploring! Ask a school counselor about Exploring, or come to their open house, Sept.25,7:00pm at the Huntley Fire Station. Huntley Library announces storytimes Preschool storytimes will be offered at the Huntley Public Library on Tuesdays at 1:30pmbeginning Sept. 26,with programming for very young children on Thursdays at 9:30am beginning Sept. 28. Helen Walter returns to the library' s storytime staff to conduct both sessions. She brings to the Huntley Library a great deal of experience having worked as the head of the children's departments in both the Lombard and Winnetka public libraries. In addition, she worked in the youth services department ofthe Palatine Public Librarj', which she left when her daughter was born. Individuals wishing to register a child for storytimes may telephone the.library at 669-5386 or may stop in at their convenience. Back to School! PTA votes on new playground By Sue Fabros PTA secretary Huntley Senior Citizens By AI Jordi Secretary, Huntley Senior Citizens Club ThePTAfi-omHuntleyConsoUdated School District 158 held a business meeting on Monday, Aug. 28. The meeting started off with Deb Waters, president, introducing this year's PTA board: Lynette Mobley, vice president; Sue Fabros, secretary; and Ginny Borowicz, treasurer. PTA members voted on and passed a motion to use proceeds from this year's fall fundraiser (along with remaining proceeds from last year) to purchase new playground equipment for the grade school playground. The fall fundraiser kick- off will be held on Thursday, Sept. y^Once again, we will be selling 'tapping paper and other miscellaneous items. We are very excited about this endeavor and look forward to the communities support. Other items discussed at the meeting included the following topics. It was decided that profits of approximately $280 from the General Mills labels collected last spring would be used towards the purchase of an educational video library for grades K-5. Peggy Worst reported that approximately 353 wrap packs were sold this year, along with art bags, calculators and assignment notebooks. Peggy also will be chairing this year's Room Mothers Tea (date to be announced). The treasurer's report indicated that as of 7-31-95 there was $1,320.55 inthe checking account and $7,653.09 inthe savings account creating a balance of $8,973.64. Deb Waters informed the group that she will need volunteers to next MarketDay proceeds will benefit PTA. PTA would like to have at least one parent representative per grade to attend PTA meetings and act as an intermediary between the PTA and their fellow parents. Those interested in being a representative for their child's grade should contact any PTA board member. All parents, faculty and community members are invited to attend the next PTA, general meeting, which will be held on Monday, Sept.25, at 7:00pm in the grade school library. A guest speaker from the district level PTA will be present to discuss and explain the Reflections program, a fine arts contest. PTA wants to hear from you. Be involved in PTA meetings and functions ~ you can be on the by-laws committee. The made a difference! Park District plans October Craft ofthe Month The Huntley Park District will sponsor a Craft ofthe Month program beginning in October. Each month a new and interesting craft will be offered. The first featured craft is a technique called stamping. Karen Huftalin will demonstrate this technique and teach participants embossing, masking and stamping to make your own wrapping paper, tissue paper, bags and cards just in time for Christmas. She will also give instruction on the care of rubberstamps. Stopbythepark office to see a sample of what participants will be learning. Choose the class that meets Monday, Oct. 2,12:30-2:30pmor Wednesday, Oct. 4, 7:00-9:00pm. The fee is $10 in district/S 13.50 out-of-district. Please register by Sept. 27. The Aug. 24 meeting ofthe Huntley Senior Citizens was called to order by president Vem Heine with 63 members present. Mrs. Brenda Curry, assistant vice president ofthe First National Bank of Marengo Huntley Banking Center was a special guest. Mrs. Curry gave a detailed history of the Marengo bank, one of only two independently owned banks in the county. She also spoke of them any advantages for banking at the Huntley bank. She spoke highly of Mildred Ruth, one of the board of directors, and what an asset she is to the bank board. Mrs. Ruth is a longtime Huntley resident. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read on a motion by Jim Martines, 2nd by Arlene Heine. The treasurer's report shows a balance of $767.07 and was approved on a motion by Lucille Thurow, 2nd by May Chesak. The president announced that the Huntley Factor}' Shops are looking for help ~ either full- or part-time. He also announced that bingo is playedat the Arrowhead Restaurant on the third Monday of each month. A birthday party is planned for meet, presents minutes Minnie Harting on Sept. 11. She will be 104 on Sept. 6. Hosts forthe Septembe. meting will be Joe and Ann Neret, Betty Nerby and Marie Fettes. Alice Jordi, activity director, thanked all those that brought bakery and those that worked at Homestead Dayon Aug. 19. For our efforts $173.00 was deposited in the treasury. The two-hour lunch cmise aboard the Rose ofthe Rock River is planned for Oct. 11. Medieval Times show and lunch on Oct. 25, along with a tour ofthe Motorola museum, cost is $23. Splendor of Majesty on Dec. 2 at the Coronodo Theater in Rockford, cost is only $16, with dinner on your own. Branson Christmas tour on Nov. 15. It was reported that Helen Stoner is ill, and Stan Yaney had surgery at Good Shepherd, Barrington. Accompanied at the piano by May Chesak,"Happy Birthday" was sung to all those having birthdays in August. As per the chamber of commerce request, each member was asked to select someone for Huntley's outstanding citizen. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned and bingo was enjoyed.
