Oil of Indiana; Bill Mallory, Head Football Coach of N.I.U.; Dr. Sharon Plowman, N.I.U.; Ed Hall, McHenry County Superintendent of Schools; Ann Dille, Nutrition Project Coordinator; Bill Fink, Ball State University, Indiana; Nancy Wotring, Assistant to Ann Dille and Dixie O'har, Regional Superintendent. Pictured above is the guest speaker. Bill Mallory. "Nutrition and the Athlete" was the subject of the seminar held at South High School in Crystal Lake on Thursday. The session was sponsored by the McHenry County Network for Nutrition Education. Many professional speakers from all section of the United States spoke on various subjects and areas of nutrition to the more than 90 persons attending. Those conducting sessions, all relating to the subjects of health and nutrition, were: Dr. William Zuti, Kansas State University; William J. Fink, Ball State University of Muncie, Indiana; Dr. Sharon Plowman, Northem Illinois University; Al Kranz, Standard Oil of Indiana; Robert Hajda, a member of the Illinois Governor's Council of Health and Fitness and Catherine Seyller, Milk Foundation of Illinois and Indiana. Lectures were scheduled so that several could be attended during the 3 hour morning session. Following lunch at Branded Steak House, the group were honored to hear Bill Mallory, head football coach of N.I.U. Mr. Mallory spoke on. "The importance of Good Nurtition to Performance." He said coaches need more training in the nutrition field. He also described the program that he is using at N.I.U. Despite the belief of many coaches that a pre-game meal is important, Mr. Mallory stated that as long as the athlete does not eat too heavy, what he ate at that particular time would not affect his game. The important thing was to make sure all other meals during the week were balanced nutritionally. Mr. Mallory also stressed that having water available on the field was most important and to be sure lightweight (net type) uniforms were wom during hot weather. Coach Mallory does not believe a lot of extra vitamins are necessary and he firmly believes in the nutritton balanced meal. Mrs. Ann Dille, Coordinator of the Nutrition Project for Mc Henry Co. and Assistant Nancy Wotring arranged the seminar. Also present were Dixie O'Hara, Assistant Regional Superintendent, who served as Master of Ceremonies and Ed Hall, McHenry Co. Superinten¬ dent of Schools. with PITA BREAKFAST OPEN 5 A.M.
