HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR
After many continuations and delays, the library building construction program began with a formal Ground Breaking Ceremony on April 1st. The general contractor commenced actual construction on April 3rd. Scheduled completion of the project is the summer of 1968.
The Glenview Public Library celebrated its 35th year by circulating 279,230 volumes for its best year ever. This is an annual circulation of 11.4 books for each Glenview resident compared to the Illinois per capita circulation of 4.7 books and 4.5 books on the national level.
The average daily circulation was 924 volumes. There were 108 days during the year when the library users borrowed more than 1,000 books a day.
The 12,843 borrowers asked the librarians for assistance with 17,101 reference and research problems.
In addition to book materials, the residents borrowed 1,942 pamphlets, 3,159 phonograph records, 2,655 periodicals and 76 films.
LIBRARY'S RESOURCES
6,491 books were added to the collection this year as well as 156 volumes of bound magazines, 100 phonograph records, 1,837 pamphlets, and 395 college catalogs.
