Smith, Kappa Kappa, Iclass of 1906. was elected president Of the Long Beach Sigma Chi 'Alumni chapter last night at the formal organization meeting at Spanlding'a. H. H. Lockridge, Uni¬ versity of Beloit, 1907, was elected aecretary and treasurer. Formal ap¬ plication for a charter will be made to the national headquarters of the fraternity in Chicago. The Long Beach alumni chapter will have a vote at national conventions and will fie recognised in the fralternity quar- Itsrlies. The plan ia to invite Sigma Chls living in Santa Ana, San Pedro and Anaheim to become members of this alumni chapter. Last night's dinner, the first ever beld hy the Sigma Chls of Long Beach, was attended by thirty mem¬ bers aud foui^ mea pledged to varL. ous chaft>ter8. A. P. Thompson, grand praetor of the province, and B. O. Greening, of Los Angeles were present as guests of honor. Both favored the forming of the alumni chapter and told ot its advanUgee. The proposal for a formal organisa¬ tion was made by Henry Schnmann- Heittck, Massaehtisetts Institute of Technology, 1897, who is a son of fbe famous prima donna. It was seconded by William JenningB Bry¬ an, Jr., University of Nebraska, 1908 who is the son of a former candidate for *he presidency of the United Btatea. —Long Beach, Cal.. Press. Claude Smith, who has heen hon¬ ored by his fraternity brothera lo- sated in and around Long Beach, is the son of Col. Randolph Smith, of onr city, and is known to every res¬ ident of thd^ town. Each of his friends will be glad to know of his good fortune in beading the newly formed Sigma Chi chapter. Claude Is a graduate of the Univer¬ sity of lUlnots and also of the Went- ern Military Academy, located at Al¬ ton. During the World war he held a major's commission in the Illinois National Onard.
