              SENATOR, 40TH DISTRICT 
Jack T. Knuepfer (Republican) was born in 
Chicago. Educated Oak Park High School; 
Carleton College; University of Chicago, 
Master's degree in business administra- 
tion. Served five years in African and 
European Theatres, World War II; pro- 
moted from private to Lieutenant; served 
in Berlin on military government staff of 
General Clay following the war. Formerly 
alderman of Elmhurst; Young Republican; 
was a Scouter, Cubmaster; Heart fund area 
chairman; board member, PTA; director, 
Duncan-North YMCA; board member, 
DuPage County Family Service Associa- 
tion; precinct committeeman and director, 
DuPage County Republican Workshops. Business executive and director 
of a multi-plant small business organization; director, National Metal 
Trades Association; previously director, Small Business committee of Na- 
tional Safety Council, Illinois Manufacturers Costs Association; member, 
European Industries Study Group of National Screw Machine Products 
Association. State representative, 74th General Assembly; elected 
Senator, 1966. Resides with wife, Virginia and five children at 901 
Washington, Elmhurst. 
REPRESENTATIVE, 40TH DISTRICT 
Gene L. Hoffman (Republican) was born in 
Canton, September 26, 1932. Graduated 
Belvidere High School and received un- 
dergraduate degree from Illinois State 
University; elected president of his Junior 
class, President of the Letterman's Club, 
Captain of a championship wrestling team, 
Co-captain of the football team, a member 
of the Student Senate and upon gradua- 
tion, was listed in "Who's Who in American 
Colleges and Universities" and is a past 
president of the Illinois State University 
Alumni Association. Received graduate 
degree from Northern Illinois University. 
Appointed chairman of the Social Studies 
Department, Fenton High School, Bensenville in 1959, a position which he 
presently holds. Past president of Fenton Education Association; past 
chairman, Welfare and Ethics Committee of DuPage County teachers; past 
chairman of Illinois Education Association Welfare and Ethics Commis- 
sion. Serving fourth term in General Assembly; chairman of the School 
Problems Commission. Married (wife, Diana); has four children and lives 
in Elmhurst.
