Melting snow and some rain has caused the Fox River to overflow its banks in some areas, resulting in the evacuation of at least one home north of St. Charles. 
The water in the Fox River was slightly above flood stage Tuesday. 
"The water is at 18.5 feet and has been holding for the last six hours," Russ Forkins, emergency service officer, said at 9 a.m. yesterday. Flood stage is 18.2 feet, and the normal water level is 16 feet. 
Most of the water was a result of melting snow, Forkins said. Less than a half-inch of rain fell during an 18-hour period Monday. 
One family just north of the city had to be removed from their home. "It was flooded enough for us to ask them to leave," Forkins said. 
The river was expected to crest Thursday, according to reports from the National Weather Service and the Army Corps of Engineers. 
Forkins said, "North of us is under water, and we do have a potential problem on our hands. At the present time, areas are not being evacuated." 
More rain forecast for the next few days is expected to compound problems. 
Wayne police officer Robert Heitzman was eastbound on County Club Road Monday. when he passed over a section of the road and it collapsed. 
Water draining in the area had caused erosion under the pavement. When the car crossed the eroded section, it feel in, leaving a hole nine feet by seven feet and four feet deep, according to Wayne Police Chief Jerry Hofmann. 
The road was closed at about 4: 30 p.m. Monday and was expected to be open again late yesterday. The right front and right rear tires of the police car were damaged. 
Darryl! Bauer, St. Charles public works director, indicated that illegal connections to sanitary sewer system were responsible for some untreated sanitary sewage being released into the river Monday. 
The sanitary sewer system is not capable of handling excess water from illegal sump pump connections, resulting in some sewage to backup and flow into the river untreated. 
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning, which probably will remain in effect through Thursday. A flash flood warning is issued when flooding is considered imminent or is reported: It may be necessary for residents to move to safety. 
Some basement flooding has been reported. Forkins advised residents that if they have water in their basements, they should not handle electrical appliances.
