IN THE NAVY
Glen Karr, rookie in the U. S. Navy is pictured above while on boot leave from Great Lakes Naval Training Station where he is studying to be a machinist. Glen, 18, is the son of Mr amd Mrs Paul T. Karr of 1806 S. 8th Avenue Maywood. Uncle Sam lays great stress on the training of his sailor men and has assigned qualified enlisted men to instruct. Karr, ranked as an apprentice Seaman, receives $21 a month. After four months he will automatically become a seaman second class and his pay raised to $36 a month.
