HE'S COMING HOME from Okinawa, Germany, England, Trinidad or the open sea. He'll come whistling up the walk, stop to pet the lop-eared spaniel or the snub-nosed pup, peck his kid sister on thet cheek in that off-hand way, and skip up the steps two at a time to hug mom and slap dad on the back. He'll be lounging against the kitchen wall in the morning heckling mom to hurry with those flap-jacks because he's powerful hungry. He'll be driving the family to distraction every time he decides to do a new paint job on his jalopy or when he gives careful instructions on how the girl he is bringing home to dinner should be treated. Like Marine Pfc. Donald A. Mellen of 17 South 17th avenue, Maywood (pictured above) who was wounded on Okinawa and is now recovering in a hospital at Mare Island, Calif., he'll have obstacles to overcome but he'll be the same lovable, enthusiastic fellow he always has been The spirit of his generation is unquenchable. Perhaps his return will be delayed while he serves in the army of occupation or recovers from wounds in a hospital, but the important thing is, he's coming home.
