THE HERALD Serving Maywood, Bellwood, Forest Park, Hillside, Westchester, Broadview, Northlake, Berkeley and Melrose Park VOL. LXI, No. 36 THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 1945 PRICE 5 CENTS MAYWOOD BATAAN VICTORY DAY, honoring those valiant young men of the 192nd Tank Battalion and Maywood's other men and women in service, will be celebrated on Sunday, September 9. Pictured above as they stand before the Village of Maywood Honor Roll are Bob Schoenbeck, radio technician 3/c, of 315 South 5th avenue, and Sgt. Clarence A. Kinderknecht of 236 South 21st avenue, who was recently discharged from service. The fourth annual Bataan Day celebration, the greatest in Maywood's history because it follows the return of peace to a war-wracked world, will begin with services at 11 a.m. in all the churches of the village paying honor to the local men and women in service. A large patriotic parade will assemble at 2 p.m. in the vicinity of 15th and 19th avenues, march east on Washington, boulevard to 5th avenue and north on 5th avenue to St. Charles road. Following the parade, prominent speakers, including Governor Dwight H. Green, will be heard at 3:30 p.m. In the evening at 6:30 p.m. a drum and bugle corps contest and a victory bond and stamp rally will be held in the Proviso high school auditorium (See story on page 3).
