Back of card: Lake Tahoe, the gem of the High Sierra is 23 miles long, 17 miles wide, and over 2,000 feet deep. It is 6,250 feet above sea level. Only one other lake in the world above this elevation is larger. Emerald Bay is about 3 miles long and over a half mile wide. The reflections from the green slopes in the waters of this bay present a mirror of emerald hue in striking contrast to the deep blues and pale greens of Lake Tahoe beyond.
