Plannning Commission Considers New Pizza Business, Donald Drive Development^	
The regular monthly meeting of the Huntley Planning Commission was called to order st 7:30pm on February 8 by Chairman Wilmer Rohlwing. Those members of the board present were Jack Daum, Darrick Fransen, Ed Domagalski, Ron Hahn and Robert Schachtner. Also present were Village Administrator Nelis and Mayor Dhamer.
Mr. Daum moved to dispense with reading of the minutes and approve them as submitted. Mr. Domagalski seconded. Motion carried.
Chairman Rohlwing thanked the LaRose's for donating the 3' sub sandwich for the Commission to sample.
The first order of business was heard by Mr. Jim Craig who is representing the Berlin property on Donald Drive consisting of two acres. He would like to divide into four parcels for single family homes of approximately 1500 square feet. He would need a variance for the 64' wide lot instead of the required 70' lot.
It was noted that the 36'
wide parcel along Donald Drive is now dedicated right of way by the Village. The gravel easement on the south side is not a thoroughfare, however, and will not be because could never get 66' wide street in there. Easement goes with Ervin farm.
They are proposing R-2 coning which requires 8,000 square feet and these lots would each exceed 21,000 square feet.
The general consensus of the board during discussion was preferring three lots or a cul-de-sac with four lots. Mr. Craig will discuss with the Berlins as to how they plan to proceed.
The next order of business was presented by Pia Moscato. She and her husband would like to put in a carry-out pizza place in the building which is now the bakery on Route 47. They need a special use zoning under B-3. They would be leasing the building. They already have a pizza business in Kirkland and are experienced and would like to expand business.
Administrator Nelis had
some questions he reviewed with the Commission of concerns of his. One being the lot needs to be paved and a fence is needed behind to protect residential from headlights. Union Special owns strip in front, suggested owner get written agreement to allow access. (It was noted that this has been tried through the years, but to no avail.) He suggested limiting hours (Mrs. Moscato noted the hours they plan to be open and these hours complied). One of the owners who was present said it would be at least two years before they could pave lot.
Mr. Schachtner moved to recommend granting the Special Use Zoning for the Moscato's for the use of a Pizza Carry-Out Restaurant at 10716 Vine Street with suggestions as per memo from Administrator Nelis dated February 4, 1993, also with stipulation of one year to pave parking lot. Mr. Daum seconded. Upon roll call there were six (6) ayes and no (0) nays, motion carried.

Test - A - Thon Exceeds $4,500 Goal
The PTO Test-A-Thon, held from Jan. 11 to Feb. 5, was once again a huge success. Aladdin's Castle in Spring Hill Mall donated certificates as prizes. The PTO's goal of $4,500 was not only met, but exceeded.
There were 259 students in grades K-6 participating. The students worked extremely hard to get pledges and then to do well on their spelling tests. These 259 students collected a new Test-A-Thon record in pledges, totalling $6,814.84.
On Feb. 5 the prizes were awarded and the top class and grade were announced. The top class was 2C--Mrs. Murray, with 15 students participating for a total pledge amount of $624.19. The top grade was the second, with 45 students participating, with a pledge total of $1,587.69. These kids did great and Mrs. Murray's class received an Aladdin
book. On Feb. 19 the entire second grade was treated to a pizza party.
The PTO would like to thank Aladdin's Castle for the prizes, and all the students, parents, relatives, friends, and neighbors who made this such a huge success. Also, a big thank you to the following volunteers: Nancy Bachellor, Jackie Kowalczyk, Cheryl Lawrence, Carolyn Leger, Linda Mulcahy, Prank and Boots Parisek, Sue Paulsen, Dottie Ross, Jan Ruemelin, Kim Skaja, Kathy Watson, Laurie Weber, Denise Wills and Janice Zange.
