HUNTLEY. ILLINOIS
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 14, 1993 - VOLUME 33, NUMBER 19
USPS 580-360
Sgt. Hewitt, of the Huntley Police Department, visited with some of the Huntley Sth graders he will be instructing in the 17-week D.A.R.E. program beginning in January.
Meet DARE Officer At PTO Meeting
Come meet Huntley's new D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resis¬ tance Education) instructor, Sgt. Hewitt, at the Oct. 18 PTO meeting, held in the high school cafeteria at 6;30pm. Sgt. Hewitt will give a presentation, which will be followed by an informal discussion. There will be NO babysitting services at this meeting.
Sgt. Hewitt, of the Huntley Police Dept., has gone through 80-hours of training in
preparation for his work with D.A.R.E. He has been an officer in Huntley for four years and is becoming a familiar face at school.
Project D.A.R.E. is at the forefront of substance use prevention education programs. Thanks to the Huntley Police Department, the Huntley Chamber of Commerce and local business support this unique program will begin this year for fifth graders.
D.A.R.E. offers a highly structured, intensive curriculum developed by health education specialists. Instructors do not use scare tactics of traditional approaches that focus on the dangers of use. Instead, they work with children to raise their self-esteem, teach them how to make decisions on their own, and help them identity positive alternatives to substance use.

Vote Tuesday, November 2nd!
Huntley area voters will be voing for School District #158 Board members; on HFPD issues; MCC trustees; and McHenry County Regional School Board trustees.
The enormous power of just one single vote has often been demonstrated throughout history. You may think that one vote, cast among millions in a county, state or federal election cannot possibly count, but one vote saved
President Andrew Johnson from being impeached. In 1960, Richard Nixon lost Illinois the presidential election by less than one vote per precinct. In 1982, Governor Jim Thompson won re-election
by less that one vote in every other precinct.
So, one vote really does count. Plezise vote, November 2, for the candidates of your choice.
